5 month check up!!!

Devin went to the Doctor yesterday for his 5 month checkup. He is now 15 lbs and 24.3 inches long. He is rolling over and almost able to sit up on his own. He is in that stage where everything that he gets in his hands ends up in his mouth. He has received a clean bill of health.

Here are some of the photos. Enjoy!

Kicked out on 3 Previos.........

Philip had an intuition today that we had been kicked out of PGN and were not aware of it. So, I called our adoption agency and spoke to the director. I wanted to know the status of PGN since we have been it for over 11 weeks. Sure enough, Philip was right.

We were kicked out of PGN somewhere between 1-4 and 1-15. She was not sure on the exact date. When our attorney sent her an update on 1-4 we were still in PGN and when he sent another update on 1-15 we were out on 3 previos.

For those of you not familiar with the adoption process a previos is basically an error in our paperwork, Devin's paperwork, or Devin's birthmother's paperwork that needs to be corrected. We have 3 previos - one for an error in the birthmother's id card, second one for an error on the birthmother's birth certificate, and I am not exactly sure what the third one was. I do know they are all things on the Guatemalan side and not something we have to correct. Our attorney in Guatemala will have to fix these issues. The director of our agency could not give us a time frame on fixing these issues. Hopefully, they are quick fixes.

So, I am sure most of you are wondering what happens from this point?
1/ the attorney will have to get these 3 previos corrected
2/ our case will have to be registered with the Central Authority
3/ re-enter PGN after 1&2 are done

Basically, once we re-enter PGN it is like starting all over. We may have another 8-10 week stay in PGN and there is also a possibility of getting kicked out again. We hope and pray that our next stay in PGN is much shorter than this last time and that we don't get kicked out.

At this point we are not expecting to have Devin home before April or May. Only time will tell. We will keep you updated. Since it is going to be longer than expected we are going to Guatemala in February to visit our son.

11 Weeks and counting.......

I do not have any real news to report. We are still in PGN.

Obviously, the rumor about PGN clearing out all their cases was just that...a rumor. There was some movement through PGN this week. As of yesterday, 10 families from our agency were approved through PGN this week. Monday they had 5 families get approved. This is good news. Nice to see some movement.

We should have some new photos of Devin next week. He usually goes in for his monthly check-ups around the 21st of each month. Can't wait to see him!

The Ups & Downs Of Adopting.....

Well, where do I start. Yesterday was 10 weeks in PGN. UGH!

We started the week thinking we would see some families approved through PGN. However, our adoption agency did not receive any OUT'S this week. That is kind of unusual. FYI - Our agency currently has approximately 80 cases/families in PGN. So, yesterday I started to wonder what was going on. All kinds of thoughts are running through my head. Are they stopping all these adoptions until the get the Central Authority issue sorted out? (See my last post regarding the Central Authority issue)

I decided to join in on an online chat last night that our adoption agency has twice a week. I have never chatted online so I was not sure what to expect. While participating in this chat last night, our adoption agency coordinator, informed us of a few "rumors" that were very encouraging. I am assuming these "rumors" are coming from some of her contacts in Guatemala.

Rumor 1: First and foremost there is talk that the Central Authority will be up and running this week coming up. YEAH!!!!

Rumor 2: The attorneys in PGN will be working through the weekend to clear all the cases that are currently in PGN. They will either approve or kick out all the cases on Monday. YIPEE!!!

This is obviously great news, if it happens. Remember this is a rumor at this point. Hopefully, we will hear this week whether we are approved or kicked out of PGN. It would be absolutely devastating to be kicked out of PGN at this point since we have been it for 10 weeks. To think that we would have to start all over stinks. However, if that is what is going to happen then let's get it over with so we can correct the issues and get back in to PGN. If the Central Authority is up and running soon we should be able to get back in to PGN.

I do find it hard to believe that PGN will be able to get through the thousands of cases they currently have within a few days. However, if they would even start clearing several a day for the next few weeks to clear them all that would be good. The best news we could hear is that Devin gets approved/out of PGN this week!!!!

I also wanted to say happy 5months to Devin and happy birthday to our fury child, Bailey!!!! Devin was 5 months old on the 9th and Bailey turned 4 years old yesterday. We love you both very much!!!

We will keep you posted. Keep the prayers coming that Devin is out of PGN this week!!!!!

Prayers Needed!!!!!!

Yesterday we received some discouraging news. I am sure most of you have heard from either us or the news all the issues affecting Guatemalen adoptions. I am going to try to explain a very complicated process in a simple way. Here it goes....

As of January 1, 2008 Guatemala is in the process of completely changing the adoption process. It will no longer be handled by private attorneys. It will be managed by the government. However, back in December a law passed that would allow adoptions that were already in process to continue. Part of the law was that at power of attorney had to be registered (which we have) and the case would have to be registered with the "central authority" within 30 days. However, a "central authority" has not been created yet and therefore does not exist.

Yesterday the adoption community was informed that PGN (which is the final court system that we are in now) has stopped processing new cases or cases that are being re-submitted because they are not registered with the "central authority". However, they are still processing cases that are already in PGN. Remember a central authority does not exist at this time.

What does this mean for Devin? If we are approved through PGN this should not affect our case. If we are kicked-out for any reason we would not be able to be re-submitted to PGN. Remember PGN is not taking new cases or cases that are being re-submitted.

This is absolutely devistating news for several families that have not entered PGN or are currently waiting to be re-submitted. I am not sure what that solution is going to be or how long it will take to come up with a solution. For now, the only thing we can all do is pray for Devin and all children that are waiting to come home from Guatemala.

We pray that Devin's case will be approved soon and not kicked out!
